ah yes, Steinbergers.... my L-2 proto is what eventually got me into tapping.

I keep telling people it was a real nice expensive Gibson Les Paul bass I had that had a super straight flat neck, but nope - it was the Steinberger...

Speaking of Steinberger, I was always surprised since Ned and Emmett work together, that they did not come up with something similar for the Stick design, as far as how the strap attaches [on the L-2, and XL-2...] and the range of travel one has as far as setting the angle up for playing.

It would sure beat the belt clip and noose around the neck, that's for damn sure... although if I was back down to fighting weight, I would not be complaining about that one bit 😉 😉 😉

I know, right? I really wish that they hadn’t stopped working together. The NS Stick is cool but they could have evolved the hardware concept to make a headless 10 or 12 string Stick. The way the Railboard is designed one could almost come up with a headless retrofit

Funny you say that because I almost went the Railboard route because it reminded me so much of my Steinberger bass'es....
But then, that wound up being the reason I decided to wait until an Ironwood became available, because I did not want to think I was getting a bigger Steinberger :)

Headless ... as i discussed in another thread, this means that some guitar strings can be used on a bass scale length tapper, because they reach the string clamps. Extremely useful due to the low cost and wide availability of guitar strings. For this reason and others i think headless is optimum for tap guitars, but is very rarely seen.
D'Addario guitar strings are long enough for a 34" or 35" scale but just don't reach the more distant tuner posts. D'Addario documentation states a 39" winding length for all their guitar strings.
I'm actually currently trying to put together string connectors so that i can use some guitar strings on my modified headed basses and save money.

So, if this 10 string will have low strings too, do you have a plan that enables it to use bass guitar strings with the larger ball-ends?

I’ve already worked out a guitar size ball end set with Kalium. Labella will do them too if I need them, as will Garry Goodman of Octave4Plus.

I'm going to jump the gun and say yes but only if it has a locking nut in place and scale length is no greater than 34 inches.
My L-2 Steinberger proto has a locking nut so normal bass guitar strings can be used as opposed to double ball end strings.
Come to think of it my KYDD 5 string upright is set up the same way... and electric bass strings can be used.
I was always amazed they got away with that.

Interesting.....

I know this is unrelated as well, but I'd like to know what is happening with Megatar, if they are finished or if there is the chance someone might pick up where Patrick left off, because his last creations looked really really sweet....

It would be a shame if nobody is building them anymore. I bought one of the first neck thru models in 2006 and loved it. Those newest ones on the site look amazing.

Indeed, and I wholeheartedly agree as I have two of the older neck thru models, a Toneweaver and the regular Mobius Megatar, and both those instruments are absolutely incredible, but the one's Patrick was/is ?? making are/were real amazing looking instruments as well, and seem to be getting pretty hard to find.

But this instrument which you are building.... I can't wait to see how that turns out !!
