So, I was reading Rob Gellner's thread on good 'ole Stickist.com and thought I'd take a swing at his "Song Of The Month" thing, even if only to dust off the Grand (I haven't touched it in 6 months probably) and see if I could get a decent pass at the main melody so that I could submit that and maybe get some discussion going about, you know - music... (lol Dead as a doornail here too hahaha Almost funny)

Anyways, here's my video of me playing the main melody... Enjoy!

That’s cool.  Thanks. Does that kind of bass line have a name?  I like to learn how to do it.

Hey, thanks rcneville for taking a watch, listen!

That kind of bass work is my take on the much over-exploited "Stick Arpeggio". Now, take into consideration that I am tuned differently - Mirrored 4ths, which opens up a different way of looking at the instrument. I spent quite a bit of time in 5ths on the bass, and honestly - it's not for me.

Anyways, the idea is that you just take a chord, any chord, and create an 8 note sequence with the shape. That would work with something in 4/4 time. The more varied your sequence and the more rhythmically interesting it is, the better the end result will be overall. Lots of ideas, there is no right or wrong. Simple stuff is extremely effective also.

Maybe something like this;

----5-------5----------
------5---5---5----5---
--------6--------6------
-------------------------
------------------------

Aha!  That’s why I can’t make any sense of your video.  I’m trying to learn a standard Stick tuning, MR, with the bass in fifths, of course. Now that i know to ignore the fingering, I should be able to work out a version of that bass pattern.   thanks

Yes! Sorry, man! On my Railboard I'm in MR - but the Grand is mirrored 4ths (which I prefer)... Makes for some visual weirdness, I guess...
