Okay, so here's the skinny on what I have done so far here to the forum, hopefully folks are cool with the direction we are going to head. I guess we will have to get some to come here and do some posting pretty soon, right? All in good time...

1) A sweet new Logo. I know, it's all vampire-y, right? Good. Welcome to the nether...

2) Category name changes. Tappistry is it's own thing, so I thought that the categories should reflect that.

3) Direction. Yeah, it's primarily a tapping website, but I am leaving it wide open for all instruments, and hey even if you are a guitarist who taps EVH style on a Ukulele I want you to feel welcome, and I want you to share your music and ideas about how you do your thing.

4) Post reboot. I am going through all of the posts and removing the ones that suck, or are outdated and letting you all know that the site is taken seriously. Let's begin anew.

5) There will be something new posted very regularly. Expect evolution.

Guys, I'm glad you dig what's going down so far - bit by bit I'm hoping that a community can evolve, and we can have a whole ton of content surrounding the tapping concept, whether it's closely related or distant cousin...

Tapping is an otherworldly kind of fretboard magic, hence the slightly dark font and ominous styling...lol

A new update - I went through the list of user accounts, and deleted anyone who a) I didn't know and b) anyone who didn't post. Lots of useless spam accounts. Something tells me I am going to be busy heheh

Working on content for tomorrow's update...

Maybe i misunderstood, but please be careful, there are some people you don't know who are very valuable. For example, i was worried you may have deleted member '8 Octaves', they may wish to remain anonymous, but this is actually a very significant musician, innovator and engineer in the tapping community.

There are some valuable members who may have not posted for a long time, but only because the forum went very quiet for a few months and they may not have checked in. I plan to contact some of these to let them know the forum is active again.

Deleting those who have not posted despite being here a while is good. During the quiet period the forum did gain some spammers.

I have some thoughts and requests for the forum sections:

* 'What else is out there?'
Please can this section be dedicated to, erm, dedicated tapping instruments: Chapman Stick, Warr Guitar, Megatar, Touch Guitars, Kelstone, Sonorous, Krappy Guitars, Paschalis Touchbass etc.?
Please could the section title be more descriptive and specific? The current section title makes these dedicated instruments sound a little unimportant, like they're an afterthought in the forum.
Grouping these with banjo seems odd, i think 'tapped non-tapguitars' should be in 'Guitar and bass tapping' or a separate section.
'Show us what you made, and we will tell you what we think...' implies member-built instruments, which should really be in 'Builders Corner'.

* 'Guitar and Bass'
I think something like 'Guitar and bass tapping' is better, to distinguish from a section for any guitar and bass discussion, which is already covered in 'Traditional Instruments'.

* 'Tone and Technique'
Please can 'theory' be added to the title?

No worries, users that actually posted something are still alive. If they didn't post anything, gone. When and if they come back they can re-register. And then they should post.. Or, they will be gone again. Housekeeping, no hard feelings and nothing personal.

As for the titles of the forum categories and their descriptions, I'll get to it. I'm still getting a feel for how I want this to lay out and how I want it to feel.

For instance, I can tap on a Banjo, a ukulele and a mandolin. Also, there are iPads (geoshred, GarageBand, etc) Roli, Linnstrument, and even drum machines that can be "tapped". I want the forum to be inclusive of a lot of different musical walks of life and as such appealing to a variety of musicians. I mean, imagine a Banjo player who taps?!?! Who WOULDN'T want to see what that person does next, right? What else is there out there?

Thanks for the suggestions, they will be helpful in further fleshing out the site.

In other news, the domain name was transferred to me today, so this site will remain alive.

I just heard about this forum (through its apparent obituary) on the Stickist forum, so I have joined up to see what goes on here. I am learning Chapman Stick. I’ll check back here occasionally. Best wishes to all.

Nice, and welcome !!

I actually joined Sticklist because this forum I thought was gone forever, but I am so happy that it is back up and running, and that Jayesskerr now has the domain name.

I suppose Sticklist is ok, but I've seen things get way out of hand there over nothing, so needless to say I now won't be going back.

Good Luck with your learning, there's lots of good info here about tapping instruments in general, and of course through Stick Enterprises.

Cheers !!

I agree.

My post was a little open to misunderstanding. To be clear, what i mean is: Such 'tapping oddities' are welcome here, but i feel should not grouped with dedicated tap guitars which should have their own section due to their significance.

'What else is out there?' sounds like a section for the tapping oddities you mentioned, and i'm fine with such a section with such a title existing.
The phrase 'what else is out there' is a phrase that literally (as in the use of language) comes after something else, so implies a 'left over' or something secondary to another section, which must be 'guitar and bass tapping'. Placing dedicated tap guitars in a 'left over' / secondary / oddity section seems wrong.

However, i'm not implying that dedicated tap guitars are 'more important' here, but they are primary.

No worries, more (lots more) changes to come - we have time, we'll get it right. It will evolve as we go. Keep the suggestions coming, I am open to them - even if I don't use 100% of them, I'll keep it in mind.

So yeah, I envision a forum that is both complementary and interchangeable with Stickist.com's forums, only maybe more of the "other" crowd coming and seeing what's what. I guess we will just have to wait and see who shows up to really determine what Tappistry's direction will ultimately be...

I want everyone to feel like it's a safe place to post, and hey - if a bunch of guitar players (or worse, bassists -ewwww lol) show up and want to shred, I am totally fine with that - 99% of the forum revolves around tapping instruments, we have room for our unruly cousins... (Basement) And they are always looking for new chops to steal! lol

One thing that I want to make clear however, is that I am aware that tappistry was once upon a time ALSO the home of some terribly adversarial attitudes - I want no part of that. No controversy, no pot stirring, nope, just "hey look at this cool dude doing some crazy tapping on a.... what is that thing?"

It's an opportunity to build something pretty spectacular that benefits the whole community, easy as that.

Tappistry IS an opportunity to build something pretty spectacular that benefits the whole community, and to me - it's the only opportunity to build something pretty spectacular that benefits the whole community, because I believe it is now completely independent, unlike Sticklist - which is obviously geared towards the Stick community, and rightly so.

I also wholeheartedly agree with your sentiments regarding no pot stirring - no trouble etc.... and oddly enough after just 2 days - that's all it took to leave Sticklist, because I saw that old pattern which is pretty common of stirring the pot.

When Tappisrty went down, and I saw that things were not looking good for me at the other place - oddly enough ixlramp had suggested trying to get something going through a multistring guitar forum, which... well seemed interesting but was not the same as say Tappistry was prior to shutting down.

Yes, in the 1990s there was some seriously terribly adversarial attitudes and controversy, stuff that was out right nuts... and I still ask myself WHY ???

I had a train of thought going here, but truth be told I need to get to sleep as I had a long night at work.

But I'm liking all the points being made within this thread a whole lot.
