OK, so I'm looking at the current Musician's Friend catalog. In the middle, there is a special Gibson section. There are high-end Les Paul guitars for $2500 to $4500, etc. But there is an "aged" Les Paul (with fake worn-off lacquer, fake scratches, etc.) for $7500. Does that strike anyone else as weird?

Wow, my "aged" 1992 Plymouth must be worth at least $50,000.

And, Jay, I guess you know what that means about you and me. The girls are going to be crazy about us now!

Or maybe it will just be that our wives will be mad about us. Or maybe just mad at us.

I think we can thank Keith Richards (The Rolling Stones guitarist, for you youngun's) for the whole concept of "aged instruments'. Apparently, Fender tried to make a replacement for his battered old Tele (the 5-string one) and he complained that it looked "too new." So they battered it up for him. Then Fender thought if we can do this for Keith, maybe others would like beat up instruments...
They offer three variations of beat up/aged instruments. Maybe there's a market for aged megatars...

I once heard of a half-burnt Stick being auctioned on eBay. How Rock 'n' Roll is that?
