Hi, people,

has anybody heard about russian company - SMB - producing cool tube preamps and effects?
I've just purchased their "Super Tube Professional 5" preamp-compressor, and now I just can't make myself turn it off )))))))

I think that's one of the best dual-tube pedals I've ever played with...

I've already recorded a short sample of it - tubes gain here is about 75%, EQ's flat (off), direct recording. No other software of hardware stuff used.
It's a mono-channel preamp, so, unfortunately, I couldn't make a demo for melody strings on the same time and I had to play only on bass strings... But, nevertheless...
I think, it sounds pretty cool, doesn't it?

Forgive my ignorance, does it actually use tubes, or does it try to simulate (with transistors and integrated circuits) the sound of tubes?

If it actually uses tubes, it must have some sort of alternating current power supply (batteries don't have enough voltage for tubes, if I remember my ohm's law calculations).

Yes, it is an all-tube preamp-compressor. It works on two tubes of 12AX7 or 6N2P type (I guess, in Russia the 6N2P tubes are more popular).
So, it has special power supply (included) - with the 240V AC to 24V DC converter. And, of course, it just can't work without that supply (e.g. on batteries).
