Looks like Pete Francz was the sniper. He normally bids on Megatars. Does Pete have a music store where he resells these instruments?
But yeah, I hate that sniping, too.

The only way you can handle that is to enter the *highest* amount you are willing to spend. Then, even when a sniper leaps in at the last minute, your previously-chosen instruction will cause EBay to bid you just over the sniper.
Of course, the sniper may have chosen a higher number as his maximum, too. And then, whichever of the two of you thinks more highly of the object will be bid higher than the other.
That instruments was a TrueTapper Storm, list price $1295, in good condition. Peter got a damn good deal. I'm sorry you didn't get it, but in the meantime, I know a guy who can get you a brand new Megatar, if you like.

All of my dealings with Peter have been honest and positive. He seems to be a nice reseller, if it's any consolation.

I snipe too, and I get frustrated by ppl who bid like they are insane for the item, bidding it up to astronomical amounts before ppl who know the real worth of the item have even a chance to bid. Last minute biding is where it's at. It may seem a nasty habit, but it works!

Peter has actually been a strong supporter of touch-style music for many, many years. I don't recall the exact situation, but I think he is/was associated with a music store in Ann Arbor? I've always enjoyed dealing with him, and my experience is that his dealings are ethical, and I think he's a fair person.
I'm not sure there's anything wrong with bidding at the last minute, though it's funny how heart-pounding the last moments can be, and how annoying when we lose! The last-minute bidding method is fully described in 'EBay for Dummies,' and therefore it *must* be OK!
Peter are you there? What's to be the fate of the EBay Storm instrument?

thanks for the tip, rj. i'm on it! may the best sniper win :)
note: i am sure peter is a nice guy. he won the auction fair and square. and if he did buy it with the intent to resell, it was nothing but a smart business move on his part. he got a great deal, fer sure. i was just blowing off steam is all. no hard feelings or disrespect meant. maybe if he doesn't price it too high i can afford it :)
