I write this from Madison, WI, where I will be having my first stand-up-and-play-touchstyle-alone nano-gig tomorrow.

It is a program and fundraiser for a senior citizen coalition. My daughter is a social worker for the group, who entered me in the show.

I have been scheduled 7 minutes to play my Stick, between a poetry reading, a clown show, and a police dog demonstration.

Well, I guess you have to start somewhere.

How does one follow a 15 dear old people playing various musical instruments, a 5-year-old singing "How sweet it is to be loved by you," a Dutch shepherd police dog who would find things the police man had previously hidden around the stage, and a sweet 90-year-old playing a uke and singing? Hard acts to follow, all.

Garrison Keillor once said, "If you have to go on stage after someone has stolen the show...play a gospel tune." So, I played "The King of Love My Shepherd Is," told a joke, and then played a waltz I had written. I had planned on playing more, but the event was going a little long, and the average attendee was well past retirement age.

So, all-in-all, the event was a success, raised some dough for a senior assistance agency, and I got invited to play next year. I suppose there were 50-60 people there.

The clown act was great, by the way. One old lady about fell out of her wheel chair, she was laughing so hard.
