View Full Version : Something for the High-freq?

Since I have now gotten a Warr 8, I am on a quest for full-range sound. It's a mono instrument so I have to try to get as much sound from the highest notes as the lowest using the same output/amp.

I got a 7-band Trace Elliot AH300 to replace my Carvin PB300 and will run it thru a 4x10 cab with 1 5" tweeter, but I think that having more horn tweeters may help the high-freq more.

I remember seeing an interesting cabinet on eBay a few years ago and I can't seem to remember who made it. It was a thin cabinet "topper" with four 5" speakers, designed for bass cabinet reinforcement.

I would LOVE to get one of these, but I can't remember who made them, or if they are even made at all anymore. Does anyone else remember seeing anything like this?

(Hell, if I can't find one I may even make one!)

Hi Matt, I had one of those cab's ten years ago or so. It came from Trace Elliot and packed plenty of high and bright punch. However, I think this model whent out of production. Making one seems like a good idea to me. You should probably be looking at closed speaker constructions to maintain the attack and brightness you're looking for.

Hi Matt,

I think you need to consider the where the frequencies you're after will come from.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you're after the higher mid tones that would (for instance) give a guitar tone clarity.

The weak link in getting the sound you're after is your amp, not the speakers. For example, my guitarists strat into a fender twin produces, if anything, too much treble - from 2 x 12" speakers.

I have the 1 x 15" combo version of your amp, with the same eq section. In order to get sufficient higher mid and top end I've added a 4 x 10" extension cab and I run a graphic eq in line.

This works pretty well for me or alnatively, what about bi-amping your warr into 2 amps - your existing bass amp and a guitar or keyboard amp?

jm2c,

Thom...

Cheers, Thom...

You have a Carvin PB300C? Because that's what I have! I just wnted to replace the head with a better unit, thus the TE AH300-7.

I actually also have the Carvin V140T (4x10 w/ 5" tweeter). I have only used the 4x10 for my Warr so far and it sounds OK. I guess I just got spoiled by the amount of highs that I was getting from a guitar amp when I had my Stick's melody side running thru it.

I was also loking at the SWR Triad and this looks like a good full-range cab. Any opinions on this from anyone?
