I want to go into the power amp section of my bass amp and I need
something to significantly boost the level of the signal. Any ideas?

Toby,
If you are looking to boost the signal of the instrument, Aguilar makes real nice preamps for a bass. When I play bass (I'm really a guitarist) I ran into a similar situation, took care of it and it doesn't mess with the signal quality either. Of course, I'm assuming you mean boost the signal of the instrument, if I'm wrong, sorry for the time waste.
Good Luck,

I really like tech21 preamps/DIs, aguilar is also nice. A good resource for understanding what preamps do is here - http://urbbob.com/preamptalk.html It is geared towards upright bass players but the you can apply it across the board.

All I really need is clean boost with lots of gain and headroom. SP-13 Much?

I like to use a BassDriver DI from tech21, i think. I only use it for a boost...and boost it does. The controls are really simple too...it can easily run nicely through a power amp...AND its pretty inexpensive...horray for that..
