I just purchased a conklin groove tools 7 string bass and i'm gonna tune it EADGCEA. That is the lowest 4 being the normal 4 bass strinngs, and the highest 6 strings are tuned with the same intervals as a standard 6 string guitar.

I can buy a set of conklin snakeskins in guitar center and that'll give me the lowest 6 strings, but I still need the high A. It has to be about the same gauge as the A's you fellas use as the second highest string on the melody sides of your instrument.

I'm using this tuning because I mostly fingerpick and I wanted a range that would kinda sound like a bass and guitar together when I played it.

I live in central CA. I know warr and chapman are in the LA area, and if I recall correctly mobius megatars aren't too far either. There is also the option to order the string from conklin, but that's across the country. In your guys experience, where is the easiest/most reliable place to purchase special strings like this from?

I've always recieved strings from the good people at Stick E. about a week after ordering. Don't know if they sell to "non-stick" players though. Are you tapping on this instrument by the way? If so you might want to try out strings that goes on the SB8 from stick, or the 8 string warr set, from warr guitars. They are a lot thinner than bass and therefore easyer to tap :-)

Do you want the upper strings to be wound or plain? But , yes...Warr guitars is a good place. Traktor may be able to help you out as well.
