I am working on a new style in my liveperformance. I just recorded this today. I was improvising to a DJ - Groove Box with the touch technic on the guitar. I recently tested this style live. The audience loved it since a lot of clubs love to have such music. The combination with the live-guitarplaying is makes it quite special I guess.
The cool thing is doubling the improvised melody or making kind of a second low voice wiht the left hand just as a pianist would do. The main idea of this recording was to create a mood which fits inro the music you can hear. The whole thing is improvised.
The video is for the windows media player.

I thought the video was fantastic!
As someone with no ability to improvise "on the fly", I am impressed!

Hi Jay,
thanks for your feedback.
In fact not everybody has the ability to improvise " on the fly " but this ability does not only have advantages. On the other hand it is nearly impossible for me to play even my own songs 2 times the same way.

For me, it is the exact opposite. When I compose something, every placement of every note is considered. When I perform something I've written, it is essentially exactly the same each time.
I would prefer to be able to improvise....much easier to fill the time when playing before a crowd.

yeah, and it's exciting and fun, too! what kind of instrument are you using, RJ? I find it easy and interesting to tweak my melodies and take them on little tangents while my left hand is holding down the bass / chords that I'm used to when I play my 6 string guitar. Of course, I'm not the most polished player ;) but I guess there's trade-offs. I prefer freedom and creativity to technical perfection, myself. not that they're mutually exclusive (unless you're lazy, like me...).

Hi Jay,
it is in fact interesting that those people who are more into improvisation would love to play more exact and on the opposite the people who are more into playing songs exactly would love to improvise.
I guess it is the best when you know what kind of player you are and what I find important, is that you work on the parts where you are really not good in to get better. This way I allways try to play things several times exactly the same way. With this methode I really could get one step above in my playing level.
Greetings
