Hi. Has anyone heard of a Guitarist called Pom? His real name is Andrew Crawford and he did a Song for a Guitar magazine. It was called Blind Man and it was stunning. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get the tab for it http://www.lost-contact.com/deepshiftpage.htm this is all the info I can find about him. Any help greatly appreciated.

Andrew is pretty amazing. Have you tried contacting him via the web-site?

Just a follow-up.....

I interviewed POM recently and will be reviewing the soundtrack to the new movie. Amazing player and really nice guy! Mind if I give you (& tappistry forums) a plug in the story?

Hahaha!!!

OK, no problem. It's only a web-zine, but the traffic is pretty good. I've probably posted the link before, but if not you can always check out the complete index (which includes tappers like Jennifer Batten, Justin King, & others) of interviews here:

After downloading and getting aquainted with the soundtrack I decided to order the DVD so that I'd make full sense of what it was all about. I seem to be in a mood for writing at the moment, so here follows a short review/explaination of my findings:

I can say Lost Contact the movie is quite entertaining. Keeping in mind that it had no budget and is the brainchild of one person with a reasonable home camcorder, the end result works well. It particularly reminded me of Guy Ritchie's two films 'Lock, Stock..' and 'Snatch' and it follows in that same vein: Dark subjects interspersed with the occaisional humor. Often, the pace doesn't always help it to keep the viewer interested. One scene involves the characters picking up another team member which is set to the strong, catchy track 'Propeller'. However, it felt drawn out. There wasn't much going on on screen. Another notable point regarding the sountrack is that the moments during the most action: When Sam holds the smugglers at gun-point and when Sam throws his team mates off the boat, are both fully masked with the music from the title track. In the latter scene it felt overused and perhaps didn't help to explain what was going on

On the musical side, one half of the main duo, Sam is cast as a classical guitarist. This doesn't play much of a role in the storyline only to allow Andrew's soundtrack to fit in better. One of the spaced-out junkies makes a tongue-in-cheek comment along the lines of "You're not playing the guitar. It's the universe that is playing you".

The opening titles that occur some way into the movie feature Sam's character miming to 'Blind Man'. Most of the moves are similar to Andrew's short film Sleepwalker (that you can download on the site) but the camera is focusing less on the actor's hands! Later on, a short cut-scene I think, has Andrew himself playing fast scalic passages and sections from 'Purple Room' with quite a bit of tapping. It comes across quite clearly and there are no sign of contact mics on the guitar. Not entirely sure if it was recorded seperately and mimed to later, but the character's head isn't shown during the scene.

I have to also say that the credits mentioned places in South Devon. I am attending university in this small area of England. I wonder if he lives nearby?

Have you seen the movie, David? What are your thoughts?

* Whoops! I think this qualifies for the longest message on the tappistry forums so far! However, I'm sure I can use it as a general review in the resources section

Great review, James!

No, I've not seen the movie. POM sent some promotional stuff, so I've seen extra clips and such, but I've been in the midst of moving and whatnot and haven't gotten around to ordering it, yet. I'll be doing that soon, however.

Yeah, he's probably nearby. I think he's been gigging quite a bit, so let us know if you hop on stage with him to jam!

For those interested, POM has teamed up with his buddy Jason Carter. The classical guitarists 9if there are any) on this board may find that name somewhat familiar. Anyway, they do a brilliant version of Chick Corea's "Children's Song #6" - and it's on video, so you get to see POM's amazing tap work.

Go to Jason's site and punch the center vid. Produced by POM (which is why it looks dark and, well, POM-ish!):

With luck, my web-site will be back on-line in a matter of days. We'll be launching "Skinny Devil TV" with an exclusive video from Justin King as well as at least one POM clip.
