I've tried both the Crate portables, the Taxi and the Limo. Neither were very impressive as amps ... but what you trade in sound, you get back in portability. The Limo definitely had better bass response than the Taxi. Many buskers 'round here use Crates.
I don't know anything about the Roland minicube, although, if it's truly only 2 watts, I'd be wary about using that as a portable PA.
If I'm not mistaken, Carvin may also have a battery powered portable PA.

I am very happy with my Vox DA-5 amp. It can be plugged into an AC outlet, and it also runs on 6 C-cell batteries. It emulates 11 amps and has 11 built-in effects, including reverb. As far as amps go, it is lightweight and inexpensive. It also has an AUX input so you can plug in both the bass and melody cable(s) from a touch-style instrument.

I have the Roland Mini Cube, and it sounds OK, no complaints.
Besides sounding good, I think the big question would have to be battery life.
