View Full Version : Mixer advice ...........

Hi all
Here is the situation :-
I have three mono sources coming from my Warr bass/melody/synth. I usually run the bass into a bass amp and the melody/synth into a guitar amp. However sometimes I don't want to have to lug two amps around, so I want to be able to take these three mono sources and output them into a single mono output there by allowing me to plug into one amp and still independently control the sources. Nearly all the mixers I look at seem to output in stereo (I might want this in the future), not being very techy in this area I'm not sure where to go.
Any suggestions of products that might fit the bill ?
Thanks
Nick

Nick,
The scenario of a mixer works well. I think, that tap instruments are beasts all their own (I'm sure grammatically that's incorrect) so you're kind of in a situation of a multi keyboard player. A solution, because now, though they are stringed instruments, they are all headed down the same path as keyboard players did way back when. I think, you should talk to some keyboard players that gig with multiple keys, they've been doing where you're headed and will have more advice on a compact system. But the fact remains when you are pulling double and triple duty, the rig will just expand, if you want seperation, control, and quality over your sound, you are probably stuck with a mixer and a rack set up of some sort. I've ran into the same problem and it just seems to be the burden, maybe I'm wrong and never found a better way, but I think not. Hope this helps, if not, I could tell you what I've exactly done before in this same situation.

Pretty much any mixer will allow you to pan the channels to anywhere between left and right, so if you want mono output just pan everything to the left channel and use that. For your application, something like the Behringer UB502, which is a 5-input, stereo output mixer would do the trick for cheap (about $60). The small Behringer actually has one mono and two stereo channels, but since you only need three inputs you could use the left channel of the stereo channels and you'd be all set. I'm sure other brands of mixers have similar products.
