Are there any companies that make tapp guitars that use nylon
strings. If any one can provide me with with any information I sure would appreciate it greatly.

I know that Warr Guitars (http://www.warrguitars.com/) makes the Artisan that comes with a piezo transducer pickup which would allow you to use nylon strings. However, I believe they will put the piezo on any model. You may check with Stick Enterprises and Mobius Megatar to see if they offer any solutions for nylons.

The Warr Guitars site has a couple of mp3 files that showcase Jim Wright playing Nylon Bass Strings w/pezio transducer.

Does anybody else know of 'nylon' sound files?

I recently picked up "Heavy ConstruKction" by King Crimson. On disk 2 there is a .asf movie that has a live performace of about six songs. On one song, Cage, Trey Gunn is playing an Ashbory bass and doing some two handed tapping on it.

The Ashbory is a tiny fretless four-string w/peizo and silicon rubber strings. It has a monster bass sound played 'straight' and appeared to do well as a tapping instrument. This tapper would have never believed it if I didn't see it. :)

These sites have some great information aout the Ashbory:
http://www.steamroller.com/ashbory/
http://www.ashelec.demon.co.uk/ashbory/

Just goes to show - If it has strings someone will tap it.

Boo hiss! Not the same! i remember the Ashbury Bass very well!!

Wanted one and I don't play bass!

I'm talking about straight up nylon string tapping.

Any takers?

Not sure what was so bad as to get the boo hiss, but... :)

I'm talking about straight up nylon string tapping.

Brought up the Ashboury that Trey uses as a point of interest of a non-metal string + tapping seen in an unexpected manner. Trey's tapping is amazing - can't get any straighter, IMHO - regardless of the instrument.

Again, for some great tunes using nylon strings, check out the Warr site for Jim Wright's incredible work using the Warr Artisan.
