According to Krimson News (http://www.krimson-news.com/), Trey Gunn (http://www.treygunn.com/) and Pat Mastelotto (http://www.patmastelotto.com/) will be playing a gig in Finland with accordionist Kimmo Pohjonen (http://www.kimmopohjonen.com/) and effects wizard Samuli Kosminen on 7.4.2004. They will be going to Japan for two gigs after that.
The venue or ticket prices are not known at this time, I would assume Kimmo's website will be updated to have more info when he gets back from his European tour.

Man, I hate to complain, but you Europeans seem to get all the good concerts these days. I would love to see those guys. Also, I hear that Allan Holdsworth has been touring over there or is about to. I'm in Norfolk, VA and there just isn't an interesting music scene around here. Just metal and pop bands.
Oh well, enjoy !! :)

Don Genaro,
In Norfolk there used to be a cool rock bar called "Cogan's Instant Art". I used to live within walking distance of that place. is it still open?
May you continue to progress on your journey to Ixtlan!

Hi Jersey Ray,
Cogan's is now a pizza joint. A good one, but no longer a music venue. I live just down the street from there. It was an unusual place. Sometimes nothing would happen there for weeks or months, but occasionally they would have a good show. Too bad it's gone.
Peace,
DG

Many times in 1990-1992 i was at Cogans. I have two stories to share, and since the great Rockola, in his wisdom, has moved this thread to the off topic area, i will speak freely.
The first memory is seeing the Joyful Noise Reggae Band there on several occasions. May jah bless them, wherever they be now.
The second thing I remember was seeing the band "Southern Culture On The Skids". I showed up, made some new friends, drank a gallon of beer (2 pitchers) , and then i proceeded to rock out. When the band asked for a volunteer, I was right up there on stage. I played maraccas with them for a tune. Experiencing that - the noise, the sweat, the energy, convinced me that I needed to get back into music ASAP. After getting kicked off the stage, I staggered home (which was only a block, I lived on W 20th, across from the Hardees), but the die was cast. Fast forward 18 months, and I hit the bar scene in Asbury Park NJ.

Hmmm ...
So *that's* who was responsible ...

R Jay,
NPR's All Things Considered ran a feature on S.C.O.T.S. tonight, March 20, 2004.
I think that in 1990 they were less sophisticated than now, more like a hillbilly punk band, as I recall.

It just gets better... Crimean 6-string tapper extraordinaire, Enver Izmailov, was in Helsinki in May. I've seen him once, and he is phenomenal, definitely in the Stanley Jordan league. Unfortunately, at the time I myself was in the Crimea, on vacation in Yalta :(
And of course, another European tap extravaganza is next week in Brussels. The traditional Night of the Tap Guitar once again kicks off the European Tap-Guitar Seminar on July 7th at Arts-O-Bases, 43 rue Ulens, 1080 Brussels. SPECIAL OFFER: I will personally buy a beer (of my choice, read: Hoegaarden) for any Tappistry member who shows up and mentions this pledge. Only one per customer.
