I am playing a 10-string Stick in classic tuning, standard cross-handed technique. I can appreciate Mr. Chapman's rationale behind this design, and I am making some progress in learning to play this instrument. There are disadvantages to inverted bass 5ths (certainly Traktor makes relevant arguments against it), but there are advantges too. I have nothing against bass 5ths now that I am becoming accustomed to them.
My problem is hand size (or lack of it). I would not want a wider instrument than a 10-string Stick, as I do experience some left wrist pain while playing, and I can't figure out how to play without generating some wrist pain.
The answer for small hands, of course, is uncrossed (parallel) playing technique. So, let me pose a question, and I invite people to tell me if it is a stupid idea, or if it is something that has been tried before.
How about taking strings 6-10 on a 10-string Stick, and making them strings 1-5, respectively....and taking strings 1-5 and making them strings 6-10? Then, the fingerings would be exactly the same, but the hands would be uncrossed.
Is this a stupid idea?
