Yes, I did choose that as the subject for this thread... :)

Few questions- I'm ordering the nut slot files- anybody know of any good deals? I've seen the standard sized files at various sites- any insight here?
Also- Is ther ea source for larger pieces of material with which to carve a nut? All the blanks I've found seem to fall far short of the ( at least) 3 1/4 width neck of a touch guitar. While two together will work, other ideas are welcome/wanted.

The Megatar has an interesting nut design, which I think would be of interest to anyone home-building an instrument.

The nut has a "sawtooth" design, which, combined with a zero fret, allows for a lot of latitude in experimentation with tunings. One can easily change from uncrossed to crossed tunings, for example, with no modification needed to the nut.

I have always glued two nuts together to get the right width. I have the stewart mcdonald nut files. Lately I have been using saws to start out (fret saw, hacksaw) then finishing with the files.

I like the way the Megatar nut is cut.

Before I install the nuts, I keep them in a sack.

Thanks for all of the input so far, gang.

I ordered a couple of the bigger slabs of this to work with;

I'll let you all know how that works out. I'm interested in the zero fret concept (I have one on my Hohner-Steinberger clone). Anybody have any side view pics of the nut and zero-fret of the megatar?

BTW- Traktor, good idea on the Nut- very good idea- allowing folks to effortlessly play with tunings is pretty darn sweet.
