Oakland Axe Factory 10 string.
Specs:
10 strings tuned e a d g e a d g b e
Neck Thru construction
Concave transition between the neck and body
Dual pickups wired with independent volume controls (similar to Jazz bass wiring)
Birdseye maple fret board and pickup cases
3 piece Tulipwood neck and body
O.A.F. bridge and string retainer
Multiscale fret board 30" to 27.5"
Thin profile neck with flat non radiused fretboard
metal flake black paint and lacquer finish

This guitar is a prototype that is 100% playable. While it isn't a tapper it could be used as one. It is a hybrid that I designed to appeal to a wide variety of players from shredders to fingerstylists and bassists. My target price will be around $1200-$1500.

The 'production' instrument will feature neck thru construction, maple neck (bamboo in some cases), carbon fiber reinforcement, better pickups although I haven't decided which brand to go with yet, back routed control cavity, 2 adjustable trussrods, tranparent finishes with light lacquer topcoat, slightly different bridge design and upgraded tuners. I prefer using highend products like Hipshot hardware and electronics from Villex and EMG so we'll see how everything works out. The final cost of the parts will affect the final price of course and I am really working hard to keep this guitar out of the "you'll never own one category". :D

I am also looking into an active preamp and different tunings. Strings from www.octave4plus.com allow a guitar like this to be tuned from B0 (lowest string of a 5 string bass) up to A 4th octave which is the 5th fret on the high E string of a standard guitar. It could go lower but a preamp would be a must for that. Please don't be afraid to ask questions or throw down some comments.

I love what you did with the back. That paint looks really good too.

The paint is a flat black base coat and a transparent gray with metal flecks in it. Then I sprayed a satin lacquer over that and sanded smooth. Pretty basic rattle can finish, not perfect by a long shot but not bad either.

On the next one I'll back rout the control cavity and different pickups. The neck joint area will stay the same.

I honestly didn't have any notions of how it was supposed to be played. The great thing about being a builder of extended range guitars is that so many styles exist already because of the work that so many other great builders and players. I like to think that the guitars that I build can be used for whatever you want.
