Hello All,

Wanted to introduce myself... my name is Paul Edwards. I started playing Touchstyle instruments way back in the beginning with the Chapman Stick in 1975 in Los Angeles. Worked with Emmett in those early years and founded the Band Kittyhawk in 1977 with a 7 year run, recording 3 albums and touring through 1985. Went on to playing my old Stick student Mark Warr's the Warr Guitar and have been loving that ever since. Done a lot of teaching through the years and Film scoring as well. Now I've moved to one of the Gulf Islands in Canada and am looking to do more of everything on Touchstyle instruments. Will be taking on more students from around the planet on skype and speakerphone.

Happy to be here on this forum.

Best,

Paul Edwards

Welcome Paul!! It's great to hear from you!

I have a historical question. The 38" scale Chapman Stick of legend, was that yours or Randy Strom's?

Dude,

I'm a big fan and a fellow Warrist. I play a Phalanx, though, so I suppose I'm not eligible for lessons.... bummer...

Glad to see you here.

Here's a reply to each post in one sequentially:

To Rjgoos,

There we 3 of the long Sticks made... I owned one, Randy another and one of my students the other... We asked Emmett to make it for the bass tone and man it had the best bass ever... but the melody side suffered somewhat. We used the long Stick on the Race for the Oasis and Fanfare (Kittyhawk) Albums.
It has a growl to it that I love... Unfortunately I sold mine way back when to get my first Warr.... Still have that Warr though and love it...

Hope this helps.

To GaryOpenhill,

I am teaching over the phone (speakerphone) currently, which is working very well, but I'm sure skype will be even better. I have that capability and any student who wants to try it is welcome.
I will be doing some new recording including videos soon. (hope this answers your question too Rrawman) I'm using the Line6 X3 Pro and just loving it. I will post a message when I put something new up...
Anyone who would be interested in taking lessons can have a complimentary session so we both can see if it's a good fit. I teach touchstyle playing, writing (music on the instrument and off), and improvisation, so I try to taylor the lessons to the student. I also studied for eight years with Spud Murphy (Benny Goodman's main arranger) so his unique Equal Interval System for music could be in the mix too. For those interested, my email address is: pauledwardss@gmail.com
To K Rex.... do you think you can't take lessons due to a different tuning with Phalanx? I would suggest there are many things we can explore even though the tuning may be different.
To Nightmare Music, thanks for remembering my Christmas Album. This came out in the 80's on LP and cassette. I hope to remaster it on CD and MP3 for this Christmas. I did this completely touchstyle on the long scale Stick.
To Teknoman... which Kittyhawk album do u mean for the piano sound? Yes it was the Wright Bros plane pic... one of the reasons we named the band Kittyhawk is because I am related to the Wright Bros and have copies of their pics. The question if I'm still "alive" is for someone else to determine ;)

Hope this answers everyones questions and thanks for responding!

(just lovin the Line6 POD X3 PRO!)

Best,

Paul
