finger pressure

does it take alot of finger pressure to make notes sound out on a tap style instrument? right now i'm still using an 8 string bass while saving for a true tap style instrument. i find at time i get cramps in my right hand even when just playing intense bass line traditionaly, whether this is do to lack of practice or being a full time plumber not sure.

No, it doesn't take much pressure. The action on most tapping instruments is very low. As for your cramps, I think maybe your hand is tensing up, you need to keep the muscles as relaxed as possible while still doing their job. There may well be specific things you can do to help with that, but it's not a problem I've had, so I can't suggest anything.
