I am working on a new touchstyle bass and need some advice on pickups. Due to the string spacing, I need guitar pickups. Does anyone have any suggestions on a guitar pickup that would work for bass? I have always used bartolini bass pickups but haven't had any exposure to their guitar pickups.
I would like to find some with good low mid growl like the bartolinis. Due to space constraints, I do not have room for active electronics so they will have to be passive. I would appreciate any information you could supply.
Happy tapping

EMG's do not require extraneous electronics since the preamp is built in the pickup. The pickups in my Stick are regular EMG Telecaster neck pickups and they work great on the bass side.
My two cents.

Thanks for the info. I have never used EMG's but have heard some good things about them. I sent an e-mail to them asking for their suggestions on a pickup that will work for my application. I thought about Bartolini but they are a little pricy.

EMGs are supposed to be pretty good, but I've not experimented much with them. Bartolinis work very well, and bartolini has a website with a pdf file giving all the specs. Also, remember that in many cases, the outside dimensions of many pickups are similar, so you could, for example, plug any old inexpensive pickups into your guitar and upgrade to barts later, if the exterior and mounting are similar.
PS: Some modest cost pickups sound quite good.
