what do you guys think of the eclipse model? if things work out at tax time i'm aiming for a megatar but i do believe the eclipse is the high i can shot for. any thoughts or experience with this megatar. would it be a good buy concidering that it maybe the last big purchase i make for a long time. would i be better served to wait or is it a pro-grade tapper, it just happens to be at an affordible price? help is truly needed.

I think so. I'd try to get one with Barts, but if you can't swing that you can always upgrade the electronics later. To me, that's the great thing about Megatars. Well, that and the strap.

All of the Megatars are professional level instruments. I have a 'Storm' with the Bartolini pickups and I think it sounds great. I have never used an 'eclipse' model but I bet it rocks.

I would go for it if i was you. I used to have the gold pickups and was super happy with the smooth sound they gave and their adjustable polepieces. On the maxtapper they gave exactly the sound i was looking for. I don't know anything about the pickups on the eclipse, but im sure their good. I'd expect they would be brighter. Id personally go for the gold soap bars, if you cant get the active barts. The adjustable polepieses helped me alot in the beginning to get the right balance in all my diferent setups.
But the megatar totally IS a pro grade tapper, and IMO the neck shape, both the tapering, the wider fretboard, the stringspacing, the shape of the back of the neck is the best you can get. Now that they are necktrough, it wil be even better.
I've had mine for some years, and done major tampering with it and it still is able to keep its super low action (that is very, very, VERY important for the right technique and feel) and it feels better than ever and sounds great.

And BTW, its not really particulary cheap, its just that the other brands are insanly expencive. You could call or write megatar and ask if there are any used or budge models available.
