Yep. Trey's approach to the instrument is very interesting:
“I kind of treat it more as an African instrument or a big marimba or mbira – or as a single instrument that just has that incredible range. I’m not interested in being the bass player and the soloist at the same time. It’s hard enough doing one thing at once – I don’t need to be doing two things at once. I’d rather be creating new music instead of spending all the time that’s necessary to be able to be good at that thing. What those players do is quite amazing, but it’s just not what I’m interested in doing.”
I'd love to get some lessons from that guy. Or even just some pointers and advice :)

Fantastic article. It was interesting to learn that Mark Warr originally started with laptar/horizontal tapping instruments.

That was great. So Trey is now investigating horizontal playing. I tried playing my guitar like that last night. Didn't really seem to work for me. Tapping and sitting down don't seem to go together as well as normal guitar playing and sitting down.

i tap on my acoustic occasionally with it laying flat, but i use a lot of open tunings so when i tap on it laid flat i try to utilize the open strings.
i tried it with the megatar and it really didn't work well for me

It looks like TG is playing a warr guitar mounted on a keyboard stand in this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQqx4dV16oQ) , but it's hard to see. There used to be a great clip on youtube of him playing a solo on a stand mounted warr guitar with King Crimson.
For me, horizontal only works when all strings are tuned in the same direction.
