I see that ESP Guitars FM408 is now available for purchase. So now there are two production 8 strings available for those of us who are staying with guitars for two handed tapping.
I wouldn't buy the Ibanez or the ESP without first trying them out. But at least some competition should help get the pricing somewhere within reason sooner.

This one looks kind'a cool. It's got more range and a better price. Just my opinion.

Sure, but no basses for me and probably no stick, perhaps a megatar in the fairly distant future. :)
That is why my post said "for those of us who are staying with guitars " :)
Nope not doing long scale not going to happen :)

Eventually those 8 strings will get cheaper. Atleast that's what happened with all those seven strings a few years back.
Megatar? Me too. Mine will have the fanned fret bits.
Best,

Well I figure the pricing should at least get to a tempting level but I won't be getting anything without trying it first. Eventually I will have to seek out someone who has a Megatar just to try out do want to try one.
If not a Megatar I do want to try out some fanned fret instrument just to see what that is like.
:)
PS: One of the real reason for my interest in 8 string guitars is to reduce left and right hand collision. Right now I am working on pieces and fragments of musical pieces where jumping up to the unison note on a lower string would be so nice and better facilitate some pieces that I am interested in playing. So range extension is not all of the reason underlying my desire for an 8 string. I could achieve a lot of this via a BoxGuitar but it does also extend the range a bit to. Oh well that is it and it is not verified either. I will try to get and try an 8 string out soon but they don't seem to be sitting around in music stores just yet.

Yeah they seem to be and both the Ibanez and the ESP use them. I would have to check but they both may be using the same bridge. So we get a little closer to the off the shelf components for 8 string guitars. Anyone builder want to work out 8 string necks for an after market industry... Sure the neck joint is an issue but perhaps chiseling out the body isn't too much for amateur builders?
PS: Whats next 10 strings on guitars?
PPS: The bridges are different but hipshot makes their version for ESP.

So the components are partly available from independent manufacturers, well except for the Neck/Body.
