View Full Version : 2007, the year in review...

After Jason and Tim kindly dropped by to announce the Arpejji, it occurred to me that a lot has happened in the past year or so:

The Stick community had a good year. Many seminars were held domestically and abroad. New educational materials, from several authors, were released. A new routing pedal was introduced.

The Warr community seems to be stirring. The Baltimore Seminar was largely (but not entirely  ) a Warr gathering. I think it was the first major seminar in the USA for Warr players since Tap Tech IV in 2000. The Warr web presence, once neglected, is now very active, with a web site that is updated almost daily.

The changes at Mobius Megatar were profound. A new shop, new CNC equipment, and new neck-through models were all introduced. As scarce as Traktor has been, and the way units have been disappearing from his eBay store, I can only assume that he is busy and doing well.

Stu Box's new line of instruments begin hitting the market.

Dave Bunker released some phenomenal videos of his Touch Guitar.

Ken Jacobson from Seattle announced his line of tapping instruments.

Mr. Koyabu announced the Koyabu Tiny, a less expensive model of his Koyabu Board line of instruments. The Koyabu Board was demonstrated in trade shows in Japan and China.

The Solene is back! The unit has been upgraded with a new pickup array, and Rich Eberlen released a (very good) CD of music played on his instrument.

The Starrboard is reincarnated! Just a few days ago, the Arpejji was announced by the folks at Marcodi.

On the DIY front, wwhwwwh, Tom, Lactose, Dr. Blues, Big Daddy, Piele, and others, forged ahead with new designs, although I think Brenda's record for number of clamps needed for a single gluing job still stands.

And last (and certainly least), pictures of an odd-looking aluminum contraption from North Dakota began to appear on the internet in 2007.

No doubt I've missed many things. What else happened in 2007? Yes, there were some flame wars and unkind words exchanged in 2007, but let's focus on the positive.

More to add for 2007:

Steve's book and DVD hit the market.

Two late developments for the DIY world: Kevin S. began offering finished necks for DIY builders, and Tom D. began offering neck blanks via a new web site.

And, right here on tappistry.org....a few hatchets were buried? Let's hope so.

So, taken together, a good year for the wider world of tapping! Anything else to add?

Nice idea Jay,

Here are some links to photos and writeups about the events:

And I think one really huge thing was Tony's new CD, "Stick Man." He's been an inspiration for so many of us for so long. Great to see him continuing to explore the technique and instrument in new ways:

Happy Tapping, and Happy 2008 to all you Free Hands tapping musicians out there.

That I had the BEST time with Greg Howard at the NYC Stick seminar in April of 2007.

I still need to get two babies hooked up by SE so that I can be full-blown sexy.

This year - for me saw the new house (no sub-prime mess), the tenure at the college, an unneccesarily too fast red Bonneville with a V8, and MORE TAPPING INSTRUMENTS THAN ONE BOY NEEDS! Did I just say that????

With all of the new girls:

-- Box
-- Donated MIDI Tapper
-- Cool Tapper prototype
-- Yet, Another Megatar

That brings my insanity up to 8 tapping instruments.

Which means............................................

Possibly the first College Tapping Guitar Ensemble/ Orchestra! Be on the look out in Fall of 2008.

My biggest thing is the generosity of others this year:

Traktor - awesome deals, great friend. Great pearls too!

Glenn - "of no endorsements", but a huge big heart. Thanks again Glenn.

Greg Howard - hooking up one my Sticks at the seminar and inviting me to play on the ONLY jam I've done all year.

Tony Rodriguez - for hosting the Stick seminar - IN STATEN ISLAND!!!

RJ - Dude - hitting the ground floor running! Love it!

Pete Beggs - THE MAN! For telling a funny story about me while playing a song on the Stick at the NYC Seminar. DAMN!! That was funny. Anyone who saw Pete at the seminar knows what I mean. DAMN!!! So glad to see you again Pete.

SteveA - for turning me on to his CD.

KRex - for just seeking my insight on his music. To me, an honor just to be asked.

Brett Bottomley - yes, Brett - for allowing me to hear - to this date - the warmest Stick jazz tone I have ever heard.

Gary O - awesome insights on difficult and meaningful issues. Thank you.

Rob Martino - Thanks for bringing fun back! Cats are cute, just not my thing. I love how you incorporate them into your persona.

Bill Burke - for simply "throwin' down!" Super Killer playah!

Randy Strom - Finally got to hear you and I loved it!

I had a great year and even though I am not a religious person, I know I was blessed somehow.

I bought a camcorder this month - IT'S OVER!!

Prepare for the silliness that is The Ernoir!

Groove on!
