Yes, that volume thingy would be a definite challange. Sometimes I think a "cheating" device would really help but that would somewhat compromise the purity of a "stringed" instrument. What I mean is, some type of device (similar to an E-bow) which would continually vibrate the strings. Kind of a secondary means of sound initiation similar to a bag pipe, where the player blows into a bag, but the bag is squeezed to push the air through the pipe to actually initiate the sound. Some way to force a vibration equally across the strings so they would be continully "humming". I don't think excess sound would be a problem if the nut (1st fret) damper was in place which most tapping instruments have.The vibration would only sound a string which had been fretted. Sounds like a pipe dream to me! :-)
