the new Line-6 Pod X3 has 2 inputs with the ability to run 2 rigs simultaniously.

I was specifically wondering about this. I own a Vetta and am familiar with the wide range of sounds it can produce. Sounds like this might be a great modeler for stereo tapping instruments.

my thoughts exactly. i was reading about it, and the first thing i thought was "this thing is tailor made for touch-style instruments"

When it says it can run two rigs at once it means you can blend two sets of ams/effects together from on source. It still only has a single 1/4" input, not 2 which you'd need for separate processing of bass/melody sides of a tapping instrument.

from the Line-6 website

"POD X3 Live also offers powerful new dual tone modeling and routing options. Split your single-input guitar or bass signal through two different amp and effect chains simultaneously to create gorgeous new hybrids, or use its dual inputs to individually process two instruments—a microphone and a guitar, for example—at the same time."

the 1/4" aux input acts as the input for the second rig

What 1/4" aux input? The other input is an XLR, inputs as listed on the site are:

1/4-inch Instrument Input

XLR Microphone Input (w/ Trim Adjust)

USB 2.0 for computer recording

S/PDIF Stereo Digital Audio output

Stereo 1/4-inch TRS Balanced Line outputs

1/4-inch Stereo Headphones output

FBV Connector for optional pedal controller

Admittedly you could plug the other side of your instrument into the XLR input with the right cable, but I'd still prefer to just use a 2x2 audio interface into my laptop and process in stereo with NI Guitar Rig :p

i'm not sure why its not listed in the specs, but if you scroll the pic at the top of the specs page, right beside the XLR input is a 1/4" aux input

AS i understand it, its only the LIVE version that comes with two aux's. But the second is a 1/8".
If thats the case, that means that they have removed this input compared to the xt. Nooooooo........

According to people on another (unnamed) board devoted to stereo output instruments, the Live version does in fact have two 1/4" inputs, each of which has it's own signal path.

Also, if you read the manual (which is available on the line6 website), you can see how the Live version has a whole crapload of inputs available.

There is a thread over on the line6 boards indicating there may be a serious manufacturing problem with the live unit. Allegedly shielding paint is chipping off and flakes are falling on to the circuit traces, which produces random behavior.

So you may want to wait....
