Happy to announce that the first ever Australian Stick & Tapping seminar is going to be held in Sydney on November 10/11th, 2007. Bob Culbertson, a well-known Stick player and teacher, is going to be running the seminar, plus performing a gig or two somewhere around town. He's also planning a small trip to New Zealand, so might be able to play a gig there and catch up with any Stickists that are interested.
As there aren't a whole lot of Sticks in this area of the world, the seminar is open to all tappers, regardless of instrument, plus anyone that is interested in finding out more about two-handed tapping. Might be cheap tickets for "spectators" if there's enough interest. Once we have a better idea of who is attending and levels of interest, we'll publish a rough format guideline and attendance/fee options, but all skill levels are definitely welcome.
The seminar will be held in a classroom format and there should be *some* amplification available. Might be worth bringing your own if you have gear small enough to travel with, but I'll post more details closer to the date. There will be a social night and a group jam for all attendees, that should be a lot of fun and a great experience!
We haven't set seminar fees just yet, but we're guessing around AU$200-250. Pretty good value for two days of teaching from a leading Stick teacher and performer!
Anyway, if you live in Australia or New Zealand and play Stick or any other tapping instrument, I'd love to hear from you! Please email me on evilstickplayer@gmail.com so I can compile a list of interested people and keep people up to date on what's happening.
Also keen to hear from anyone in Sydney or New Zealand that has contacts for good gig venues where a Stick/Tapping performance would go down nicely. Bob has played pretty much every style of music from Prog, Rock and Fusion to Classical, so anything goes.
