I've been looking lately into getting an extended range classical. i'm thinking 8 string
has anyone tried the Janet Marlow entry level model. its a 10 string, but its also significantly less expensive than a lot of the others i've looked at.
Andrew White (http://www.andrewwhiteguitars.com) 's guitars look GREAT, but are really more expensive than i would like to spend.
of course ebay has some generic 7 strings, but i'm always hesitant with ebay.
any suggestions?

Without sounding like a braggart.
What you sound like you need is simply a seven string acoustic.
I have played 10 and 11-string classical for nearly 20 years. I "knew" Janet Marlow, and I know the guitar seems "good" for the money, but it is really for a classical type player who wants to sound like her.
You should look up the term "Alto Guitar" - this is what I play as an 11-string. My guitar is made by the Asturias Guitars (http://www.asturias.jp/asturiasenglish/asturiasenglish.html) company in Japan. The site is a little funky.
As far as eBay is concerned - I have nothing but great success, but then again I am always seeking high end. If you are going to tap on one of these - be careful - not bred for that.
If you have been to 10stringguitar.com already, then you already understand that this is what these instruments cost, but don't buy something that is so expensive until you know what it is you want to do. I say start with a 7-string nylon - that will most likely keep you happy for a little bit. Plus they are cheaper to purchase.

try gianinni. they are made in brazil.
they make a 7 string classical for 300 or so.
I think they are doing 8 strings now too.
there is a shop in FL that sells on ebay.
I met Janet a few years ago and I thought she was a really sweet lady, and a talented guitarist.
Ever heard Narciso Yepes on 10 string?
You >must< check out Raphella Smits on the 8 and 7 string classical.
