I got the following e-mail today from Rich Eberlen, inventor/builder of the Solene:

The long overdue Solene CD is now available at

Keep Tappin!

I should add that Rich has my deepest respect, not only as an inventor, but also as a musician. His prior CD, an acoustic/fingerstyle guitar work, shows great skill:

I have purchased Rich's Solene CD, and it is worthy of a place in the collection of anyone interested in two-handed tapping. Kudos to Rich for not only inventing a new tapping instrument, but for knowing how to play it as well!! The CD has a diversity of musical styles.

I notice that Solene has undergone a significant redesign (http://home.flash.net/~solene/) over the earlier model that I have. The individual pickup coils have been replaced by two more traditional pickups. Also (not visible in the pictures in the web site), the Solene now has a slot cut in the side, so the left thumb is behind the fretboard (instead of behind the back of the pipe).

In any case, diversity and choice and competition are good for any market, and I am glad that Rich continues to develop the Solene.
