Has anyone used an Avalon U5 with their touch/tap instruments? I used one on a quick overdub a few years ago, and it really surprised me how clear and rich (with no coloration) it sounded. It made my instrument sound like it was meant to sound. So I ditched my Ampeg SVP Pro preamp, and my Avalon should be arriving in a week. Curious to hear your thoughts/reviews.

I don't have a tapper yet, but I used a u5 for about a year in my studio setup for guitar and bass stuff. It sounds great, the tone options are very useful, the price is good and it's built like a tank!
I eventually got rid of it for the same reason you are buying it... overall, the sound was a little too sterile for my taste. Now I use a TFPro P2 or an older presonus Mp20 with jensen output transformers.
