i've been seriously consitering going into lutherie and have been looking into some schools. does anyone here have experience with Galloup, Roberto-Venn, or Summit School of Guitar Building? i've found alot of week or two long courses geared more toward repairs and only a handful of places that teach construction. any help would be appreciated

I can not help you directly with your questions, but I have taken the first two classes from Ari Lehtela which are geared to repair.

http://www.lehtelaguitarcraft.com/general.htm

His other classes, the master class in particuler, are geard toward instrument building.

He is non traditional and has very high standards. Take a look at his instruments and this will be aparent.

I have talked with him about doing a tap instrument, but the deal with my wife is that I have to pass the Architecture exams first - so the advanced classes are at least 2 years away for me.

At the least, his site might help in getting another data point for comparing pricing and scope.

Best of luck.
