For a while I've been considering buying the FAAS piezo saddles and preamp. Does anyone have any first hand experience with this system?
Or how about piezo pickups in general. I often hear that they are best utilized when blending with magnetic pick ups.

Hi.
I have not heard the Graph Tech piezos you mention, but I had once installed RMC piezos on a Santucci Treblebass. I liked the sound just fine without the magnetics. What surprised me so much was how good the bass strings sounded. If you do install the Graph Tech FAAS piezos, I would very much like to hear what you think of their sound.
But jim Wright is on this list -- Jim (or anyone else), what's the scoop with piezos? Do they sound best when blended with magnetics?

I played a couple of the Ibanez 5-strings that have the MRII w/ fishman piezos bridge (B.W. - Guitar Center @ Totem Lake). I have to say that the mixed sound was okay at best, but the straight piezo frankly sucked. It was either all bass or all treble and neither side carried the range of the 5strings well.
The Fender Sting Signature Series has reintroduced the telecaster bass neck. The bass needs help (pickup/bridge) but that neck is terrific. You may recall that Billy Sheehan uses a tele neck on his old fender p-bass.
