My wife (guitar), my daughter (vocals), and myself (10-string tapping instrument) will be part of the "Spirit of the Community Talent Show" in Madison Wisconsin on Sunday, 11 March.

The sponsor of the fundraising event is the East Madison and Monona Coaltion for the Aging, and all proceeds go to their services for senior citizens. The event last year included food and a silent auction.

It is at the Monona Grove High School, the entire event is noon to 3:30, but I'm guessing the talent show will start about 2 PM. We are scheduled to play sometime between 3 and 3:20.

The event last year was a pretty crazy community event, with a karate demonstration, a police dog demonstration, clown act, and several local musicians. The headliner this year will be local Madison artist Ken Lonquist.

And yes...the police dog will be back this year. He stole the show last year.

will this tapping instrument be your new creation?

Kevin,

You read my mind. I wanted, badly, to use a home-made unit, and I pushed hard to get the newest prototype done in time for the gig, but I didn't get it done in time (too many Saturdays and evenings at work).

How did the gig go?

The gig went fine. It seems to be my fate to have to follow the act that "steals the show", however. Last year, it was the police dog demonstration (sounds hokey, I know, but the dog's level of training was unbelieveable). This year, it was our fortune/misfortune to follow the two fellows who stole the show. There was a 94-year-old clarinet player, and his 85-year-old piano accompanist, who were simply amazing. They told jokes, sang, played some old favorites (Sentimental Journey, etc.) at a high level of musicianship. It was hard to follow them, to be sure.

As for our part, it went fine. The show was running late, and we were the last act, so we cut our part from three songs to two. A picture or two will follow when I get them. Thanks for asking.
