You can now search Google for patents:
http://www.google.com/patents?lr=&q=&btnG=Search+Patents
For example, if you read in the words: Richard Eberlen, without quotes, you will find the patent for the Solene tapping instrument.
I prefer the search engine on the US patent office site (uspto.gov), for searches since 1976, but the Google site has two advantages:
The Google interface for seeing the patent seems to work better with different browsers, and you can search for terms before 1976.
