I had the honor of meeting Jersey Ray at the Nordic Roots music festival in Minneapolis. It was nice to finally meet a fellow member of tappistry.org.

Jersey Ray is the young buck on the left. RJ is the geezer on the right.

Although I am much older than Ray, he has been in the touchstyle scene much longer.

The festival was a lot of fun, Ray's main interest is the accordion, and Maria Kalaniemi is a master of the type of accordion Ray plays. As for me, I needed to get out of town and just enjoy some music. The acts were incredible, and included many folk instruments I'd never seen before.

Much to the surprise of Ray and myself, the band of Laplanders (Vajas) had a Stick, a polycarb mounted on a 2 or three foot long 1x4, and was played uncrossed. Some pictures are on their site:

btw, these guys are all norwegians and live in norway. That is the main reason why they ar so cool. But I think only Ande is a truly genuin sami/lap guy!

The chapman stick guy, Nils Johansen, is a musical genius who play about a million instruments nad is also a composer. His stick he picked up in france in a used stuff store. He felt he had to buy it, but according to himself he has a love/hate realtionship to it, since he finds it hard to play. He also play it some in the more famous20 year old rock/world music band Bel Canto together with the singer anneli drecker, who is also know as one of the judges in the Norwegian Idol Contest. Bel Canto probably is most known in Mexico of all places.
